“The word wine inspires many memories. The first that comes to mind is the smell of wine from the very first winepress I saw when I was little; this was, for me, unmistakable. I was 5 years old and still did not know that wine would be a fundamental part of my life, but this memory was a special moment that would accompany me throughout my entire personal and professional experiences.
During my winemaking career in various wineries, I’ve been able to discover every day why and how to develop a Tempranillo de Rioja in different areas: the elegance of Rioja Alta that I discovered in Briones, the colour intensity that I found in Rioja Baja, and I was constantly surprised by the fruity aromas and structure of Rioja Alavesa.
Since I started working at Solar Viejo Wineries in 2007, located in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, I have had the opportunity to see for myself that in Rioja no two vintages are alike, but all are interconnected: the fruitiness of Tempranillo is always flavoured with structure and elegance, features that we always seek out in our wines.
